A thid successive defeat for CD Javea adds plenty of drama to the run-in for promotion for the rojiblancos. Alicante CF "B" completed the "double" to maintain their second place in the league but Javea refused to lie down and accept defeat without a fight.
Two defeats this season against second placed Alicante CF ‘B’, pretty much tells the story of the difference between the two teams. The game commenced on a warm Saturday evening in Villafranqueza, and the first 25 minutes was a pretty even affair but with Alicante creating the best opportunities. Then on 30 minutes Javea produced their best move of the game which finished with Juanito missing a golden opportunity to put the away team in front, this was not taken and the resulting breathtaking breakaway was superbly finished and the home team went 1-0 up. Jávea, in the shape of Norman and Jávi, then themselves had opportunities to equalize but it wasn’t to be and Jávea entered the changing rooms 1-0 down.
The second half started brightly for the away team and after four minutes a fantastic run from Puncho was continued by Norman, and his shot was well saved by the keeper, only to be parried into the path of the advancing Juanito, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to level at 1-1. For the next 10 minutes it was Jávea who looked most likely to score, but eventually Alicante regained control, and the inevitable goal from them arrived with 20 minutes remaining. CD Jávea fought hard but just could not break down a resolute Alicante defence and the game fizzled out with Alicante looking the most likely to add to the goal tally.
