The regional infrastructure department has told Dénia council that it has taken on board its demands for a new promenade along the front of the port and that it was going to develop a corresponding project. Under the project, the whole of the front of the port will be redesigned to incorporate the promenade which will join up with the existing one in La Marineta Cassiana. he project also envisages the building of two underground car parks in Plaza de Benidorm and Calle Mar de la Sort. Dénia mayor Paqui Viciano and her right-hand-man Pau Reig met with the director general of ports Carlos Eleno and chief of the ports and airports division Josep Llin I Belda on Tuesday to discuss the plan. Sra Viciano said that the main objective of the plan was to reduce traffic in the port area and to integrate and improve existing public spaces by eliminating all barriers. She added that the plan would also incorporate access to beach areas, rest areas, and special bicycle-only lanes plus sport and recreational facilities. The decision by Valencia to accede to Dénia’s wishes has been welcomed by the council. A spokesman said that this a major step forward but there is still a long way to go before residents and visitors see the benefit.
