Well it’s that time of year again when all in the Valencia province are out to show off all their splendour in the form of Fallas. This ends on Friday the 19th - also Father’s day – with the burning of the papier-mâché effigies. It is a time when local and national politicians are ridiculed in the Fallas, with their references to topical political themes. The bands march through the streets and townspeople dress up in their traditional†Festero†costumes and parade through the streets.
These Fallas have been planned over the last year , starting from the artists drawing to the finished article; and costing thousands of euros and a nightmare in organisation. The best Fallas celebration of Spain is in Valencia city but locally we have Gandia and Denia. If you have the time, try to visit them and some of the festival events, which are a treat to see. On 17th and 18th in Valencia they also have the Ofrenda. This where the Festeros bring bunches of flowers which are threaded through a frame and eventually build into a floral statue of the Virgin Mary and Jesus, this is an impressive site for anyone. If you are interested in visiting either Denia or Valencia follow the links below to get the official programs for Valencia and Denia.
