Moors and Christian Festival 12th to 20th July

Once again its that time of year when locals go to battle on the seafront of the Port in aid of the Moors and Christians battle re-enactment!
If you have never been to see this Fiesta it is well worth some of your time as the events are excellent from a spectator point of view, with the culmination on the last 2 nights when both Moors and Christians parade in their fabulous costumes to the heavy marching beat of local bands.

The programme

12th July
8.00pm - the announcing the start of the festival
9.00pm - the official opening of a photographic display in the Casa del Cable.
9.30pm - filas walk through the streets to collect fiesta officials
10.30pm - Official presentation of Moors and Christians

13th July
7.00pm - Opening of the artesian fair in Calle Trianna(the street behind the seafront walkway near bar Esquina) 8.30pm by the "Festera Music" in the central area of Paseo St Jaime.

14th July
6.00pm - Artesian fair

15th July
6.00pm - Artesian fair

16th July
6.00pm - Artesian fair
8.00pm - walking through streets of the town and informal flower offering to San Jaime street
11.30pm - parade through the streets of the Port
12.00pm - official closing of the artesian fair.

17th July
7.00pm - flower offering to San Jaime with processions through the streets of the Port.
8.30pm - celebration of mass in the Port Church
10.00pm - Filas dinner in the Paseo Jaime 1
01.00am - "correfocs" in the Port streets -this is a type of street theartre involing a lot of fire!!!

18th July
11.00am - Sardine BBQ in paseo Jaime 1 organised by the Ballesters fila
5.00pm - Peloto tournament between the filas
9.30pm - Landing of the Moors on the Grava beach followed march on Christian embassy and capture of the "Castle".
00.00am - Mobile disco in Paseo Jaime 1.

19th July
8.00am - firework wake up call organised by fila Almoradins
11.00am - Hot chocolate and cakes offered in Paseo Jaime 1
12.00pm - traditional childrens games in Paseo Jaime 1
12.30pm - taking of paella to Residencia Hermanos Cholbi
1.00pm - giant paella for everyone in Avenida Jaime 1.
7.00pm - entrance of the all music bands taking part in the parade.
8.00pm - Grand parade of Moors and Christians in full costume. Starting at Pio X, Cristo del Mar, Avenida Lepanto and on to
Paseo Jaime 1, where the Capitana Cristiana will give closing performance.
00.30am - mobile disco in Paseo Jaime 1

20th July
8.30am - firework wake up call by fila Almoradins.
11.00am - traditional hot chocolate and cake breakfast in Paseo Jaime 1
12.30pm - final battle for the recapture of the embassy and castle at la Grava beach by the christian filas.
7.00pm - entrance of the music bands for the parades.
8.00pm - closing of the exhibitions at the Casa del Cable
8.00pm - Grand parade jof Moors and Christians in full costume following the same route as Saturday.
00.00am - closing of the festival with spectacular firework display at the end of the Port Quay by Pirotecnia Turis.
