If you missed the opportunity to see the spectacle of the Moors and Christians in Javea in July all is not lost. Denia host their festival from the 2nd to 16th August. The main highlights are as follows.
Sunday 10th 12pm Paella competition in Marques de Campo at 12 noon, followed by giant arroz abanda at 2pm. You my not be guaranteed a plateful but just seeing the size of the dish and its contents being cooked is mesmerizing! In addition there are various activities for children.
Wednesday 13th Landing of the Moors in Denia Port followed by “Pasacalle” to the plaza del Consell
Thursday 14th 7.30pm Childrens parade with bands along Marques de Campo to Plaza de Consell, followed by traditional music at the plaza. 11.00pm Entry of the “festera” accompanied by their bands.
Friday 15th 6.00pm Grand parade of Moors and Christians in full costume along the Marques de Campo followed by mobile disco in the Port at 11.00pm
Saturday 16th 5.45pm Landing of the Christian bands at the Port and the start of battle!! 6.30pm The battle will continue through Calle Diana,La Mary for a Mur, on to the Plaza de Consell 11.00pm mobile disco in the Port area. 12.00am Fantastic firework display to end the festival. |
