October Floods Still Causing Problems

Saturday, 29 March 2008

ImageFor many the October floods will be something the people of this region will remember for a long time to come.  Even if you were one of the lucky few who were unaffected by this unique phenomenon, you will probably know at least ten others who lost valuable and irreplaceable items in this freak event.

Unfortunately there are still many amongst us waiting for that much needed monetary help from government funds to help rebuild or replace items lost.  Many roads in the area are still in dire need of restoration, and of course emergency work still continues on the rebuilding of the Beniarbeig Bridge that collapsed in spectacular fashion at the height of the floods.

Help is being requested by local Javea authorities to the central government, to raise much needed funds to repair some of the ravaged and destroyed infrastructure still affecting many road users in the area.

Help is being requested by local Javea authorities to the central government, to raise much needed funds to repair some of the ravaged and destroyed infrastructure still affecting many road users in the area.

Reports now available suggest there was an estimated €830.000 worth of damage to the area, and even though emergency repairs are being carried out, there still remains much work to be done.

Many home owners are still waiting for funds to be released from the central Insurance Compensation Consortiums so necessary work on their properties can commence.

Javea council has applied to the MP for Alicante to help fund some of the repairs, but for the many people affected and still waiting 6 months on, this could be a long and laborious process that will probably be tied up in red tape for many months to come. For now let us rejoice in the wonderful spring weather we are getting and keep our fingers crossed for no more floody bad weather!
