Thursday, 31 January 2008

MORAIRA residents flocked to the opening of Espai La Senieta – a new building now housing the area’s very own culture centre and council annex, on Sunday.

Following a guided tour around the building with architect Luis García Guillem, residents were introduced to the new computer facilities, library and activity room for retired people.

After the tour, Teulada-Moraira mayor, José Císcar, presented the first art exhibition by Ginés Salvà, a local painter from Moraira.
The mayor took the opportunity to thank everyone for attending the opening and expressed his wish that the centre satisfies the needs of local resident as well as improving the services in Moraira.

Mayor Císcar thanked those who gave donations to support the project including sisters, Francisca y María Crisóstomo Ferrer, Ginés Salvà, Rosa Padilla and an anonymous donation of 6,000 euros which was received for the pensioners’ facilities.
Before officially opening the art exhibition, Císcar presented Ginés Salvá y Guillermo Llobell, a ceramic memorabilia of Espai La Senieta.

Situated on the Avenida Madrid and Moraira-Calpe road junction it is within easy access to the town and has extensive parking facilities.
The two-storey centre of around 2,500 square metres, which took over a year to finish, cost almost 2.5 million euros, of which 450,000 were received from the regional government.

The town hall organised a presentation week of activities for all ages giving people the opportunity to see what the centre will be used for. Activities have included a jazz concert, theatre plays, gymnastic display and Tai Chi classes.

Espai La Senieta also includes the council’s Information and Application Service (SIT) for the Moraira area, a theatre seating more than 150 people, an exhibition hall, four multipurpose classrooms, a reading area, library-youth area, pensioners’ centre, bar-cafeteria and concierge.

Council sources say the main aim of the new facility is to encourage cultural and social activities as well as the integration of all nationalities.
