One of the most advertised local attractions on the Costa Blanca is Mundomar in Benidorm. I took my 5 year old son, and 15 year old daughter for a visit there on Easter Monday, and was impressed to say the least.
The park is very easy to find and is well signposted along the N332 in Benidorm, so getting there shouldn’t be a problem. Mundomar is actually located on the same complex as the ever popular Aqualandia water park, and the gates for both are located next to one another. Once you arrive there is ample parking provided for visitors to both parks.
I was lucky enough, on the day we visited, to have a couple of discount vouchers, so this allowed all three of us to enter the park for a reasonable 33 Euros.
You ARE permitted to take in your own food and drinks to Mundomar, to be consumed in the parks picnic area. This is one of my major annoyances with Terra Mitica who search your bags, and confiscate any food and drink you may have taken with you, forcing you to pay the ridiculous prices inside the park. Not so at Mundomar.
Once inside the park we began our walk around with a look at some very colourful parrots, flamenco’s and giant tortoise, before moving on to the sea lions. These were a source of great interest to my 5 year old, he loved them.
Next came the enclosure for the bats, don’t worry, they are all behind a thick glass screen, in a very dark room, but you can see them flying around clearly enough.
Following on from the bats came various animals I will call monkeys for want of a better term. Small ones, bigger ones, stripy ones, etc, but the best of all are the Ring Tail Limas. These are in my opinion the cutest of the parks monkeys, and I could have stood watching them for hours, but with a 5 year old in tow, that wasn’t to be!!
We left the monkeys to their screeching and settled down to watch the sea lion show. Whilst there you are able to have a photograph taken with one of the sea lions kissing the top of your head, should you wish! I was a typical parent, and sent my son it to have his taken, and was surprised when it came time to pay, that it only cost 5 Euros.
The show was quite good, but there was very little of the animals in the water, which I found quite strange, it was more tricks on the side of the pool, than anything in the water.
Once the sea lions were done with we headed off to the main event, the dolphin show. I had heard good reports about this, and we weren’t disappointed. Having been to Sea World in Florida, many years ago, I would rate the Mundomar show, just as good, definitely worth watching. Be warned though, should you have a picture taken with the dolphins, that will cost you 15 Euros.
On our day out we didn’t eat in the park, but the restaurant was huge, and looked ot offer a wide variety of food, from the usual burgers to paella.
If you are struggling to make the day last, there is a great playground for the kids, with loads of things to climb on and slide down. A word or warning to other parents though. The playground has at least 3 ways to get in and out of it. Losing a child in there would be extremely easy. I had to follow my son around, and made sure I kept him in view at all times, so it’s not a relaxing place to leave the kids for an hour. It could be improved so much by changing to a single gate, in and out.
Overall we had a great day out, and would highly recommend a visit to Mundomar.
