On Saturday Denia Rugby Club made the long journey to Orihuela to play their penultimate Alicante League game at Cadetes (Under 17s) and their first official Juvenile fixture (Under 19s). The Cadetes, with several players missing, fielded a very inexperienced side but experience is only really gained in matches. A hard fought contest often spoiled by an over zealous referee, saw both sides dominate in defence rather than attack. Despite several try scoring opportunities the scores remained 0-0 at half time. The second half saw Denia dominate both territory and possession and a late try from Juan, converted by Giuliano, was enough to give Denia what was actually a title winning victory. No celebrations though as the play-offs in April will prove to be the real test for this developing side. This game was followed by the Juveniles who, with only ten players travelling, were supplemented by Cadetes who had already played ! A try either side of half time and a late penalty gave victory to a bigger Orihuela side, but considering that five Denia players had never played a match before and the Cadetes had just played its was a very encouraging performance and bodes well for the future of Denia Rugby Club. Denia Cadetes: Pepe, Oliver,Blake,Angel,Bjorn,Nathan,David,Andres,Aiden,Giuliano,Loic,Andrew,Ben,Bobby,Inaki,Juan,Santiago. Denia Juveniles: Nils, Jefferson,Jobie,Lloyd,Markuz,Sam,Theo,Cesar,Ryan & Dan. The final Cadete League game is this Saturday at home against Akra from Alicante. New players are needed for the Juveniles. Training is on thuesdays and thursdays at 7pm at the Main Sports Ground in Denia.
