Javea seems to be becoming a town of supermarkets and just when we think we have enough another one is being built. Yes that strange construction that looks like an aircraft hanger near El Rancho restaurant, is going to be a supermarket. It belongs to the Aldi chain which is related to the same family as Lidl. As of yet we do not have an opening date, but looking at the stage of construction it could be late September.

This weekend sees the start of the Moor s and Christians Festival in the Javea Port. This is a colourful and as realistic a re-enactment of the invasion of the Moors to the province and the subsequent banishment at the hands of King Jaume. The week consists of various battles and struggles to take possession of the Castle, sports tournaments and the final parades with all the fantastic costumes and invited guests form other towns. An excellent spectacle and well worth supporting. The programm starts on Saturday 11th July , through to Saturday 18th.

Recently people have been concerned that the Guardia Civil are stopping cars on the Javea -Gata road and fining the drivers up to 150 euros if they are driving in flip flops. Apart from the obvious safety worry of them falling off your feet while driving, the traffic laws states that you must wear full shoes when driving. This means any shoe without a back can be against the law, not just flip flops. And just think how many pairs of full shoes you can buy with 150 euros. Maybe a pair of driving shoes should be kept in the car throughout the summer!! |

Once again we are into June and the local fiestas. The fun started last week with the highly successful International Fair, a great opportunity to find out about the cultures of our neighbours in Javea. As the fair came to a close on Saturday the fiestas of San Juan were continuing with the “Pregon” in the Plaza de Constitucion. These fiestas will continue until the burning of the Foguera on the 24th of June. |
