Is The Health Of Javea Residents Being Compromised?

Generally the system of health care in the town of Javea is of a high standard. We have access to booking appointments on the internet for our GP, we have a 24 hour emergency clinic and our town hall still funds a 24 hour emergency ambulance service through the Cruz Roja. So what could be the problem I hear you ask? Unfortunately when you have to travel outside of Javea to the Marina Alta Hospital in la Xara things may not run so smoothly.

Many people moan about the lack of English spoken at the hospital, for these I have no sympathy as it is clearly stated that if you do not understand Spanish (Castellano) you should bring an interpreter! The problem generally seems to be lack of staff at all levels and the hospital authorities have tried to address this, but in doing so have created another problem.

They have decided to close an entire ward and relocate the beds to other areas. However they have closed 37 beds and relocated only 21-even as a poor mathematician we can work out the result! As many of these are on surgical wards it will affect the waiting time for non emergency operations and sometimes create a wait of over 70 hours  to be admitted to a ward from accident and emergency!

The nursing staff also feel this will affect their workload and may compromise the standard of care so their union is vigorously trying to oppose the move.
